Wizz Air low-cost company transported 736,000 passengers, from and towards Romania in the first five months of the year, by 31% more than in the same period last year, when it transported 562,000 passengers. The growth is the result of increasing transport capacity from Cluj-Napoca and Bucharest, of introducing new routes, but also due to the increase of flights frequencies operated from the three bases which the company owns in Romania. Gyorgy Abran, Commercial Manager of Wizz Air, stated that Bucharest will continue to account for more than 50% of the company’s operations in Romania, considering passengers traffic.
Starting this summer the company will allocate two new aircrafts, Airbus 320 type for the bases in Romania, one plane already operating starting June 12 from Cluj-Napoca and the other planned to arrive in Bucharest on June 26. The new aircrafts will increase the fleet in Romania to eight planes and will create approximately 70 new jobs, pilots and crew.
Starting June 12, the company launched three flights from Cluj-Napoca towards Dusseldorf, Zaragoza and Palma de Mallorca and one flight from Bucharest to Pisa. All flights are operated twice a week. At the same time, a new flight will be launched from Bucharest towards Turin on June 30, while in July, two flights from Bucharest to Dusseldorf and Zaragoza will be introduced and also a flight on Cluj-Napoca – Alicante route.
