Traian Vuia International Airport in Timisoara reported 927,000 passengers between January and November 2009, 12% more than in the same period of 2008, according to the Ministry of Transport.
11,442 aircrafts landed and took off in the specified period, reporting an increase by 3.15% of aircraft movements.
Seven new destinations were launched during last year, namely Perugia, Cernauti, Valencia, Paris, Bergamo, Treviso, Barcelona, while more charter flights towards different holiday destinations have been introduced during summer season. Total revenues reported by Traian Vuia International Airport Timisoara in the 11 months of 2009 increased by 30% compared to the similar period last year, also reporting a 24% turnover increase, compared to January - November 2008. The works initiated last year include developing the access to the platform and implementing a new electronic system for managing luggage, connected to an international network.
The aircraft runway was developed and also the aircraft parking platform on East direction expanded, through the amount allocated from the state budget. The value of works exceeded EUR 4.6 mil. works were completed in June. Moreover, the development of domestic arrivals non Schengen terminal was started and is due in June 2010. Rodica Alexa is the interim Manager of the airport, also Manager of infrastructure and exploiting department within the airport, following the resignation of Alexandru Chirila, on January 4, Manager of the International Airport in Timisoara, within a month from his appointment.
