Tourists show more and more interest in eco boarding houses in Romania

Add comment

Romania has 14 eco boarding houses, the highest number in South-Eastern Europe. The occupancy rate is expected to grow up to 30% in 2009, compared to 2008, stated the members of Eco Tourism Association in Romania, AER.

Hermann Kurmes, AER member, stated that in 2008 the occupancy rate of eco pensions increased by 35%.

The representatives of the association specified that the ecological boarding houses in Romania have adopted the operational model used in Sweden and Australia.

An eco boarding house comprises up to 20 rooms and it’s designed in such manner that neither the construction nor the energy consumption harm the environment, stated Radu Zaharie, AER member.

Moreover, an eco boarding house has to provide its guests a menu based on organic food.
