The representatives of the National Association of Travel Agencies foresee for 2009 that tourism will register a significant decrease, although the estimates made a few months were optimist. The 2008 started well but towards the end of the year, especially in November and December, the tourism market started to experience decreases. In the addition to the financial crisis, the ANAT representatives stated that the drop is the result of the fact that the potential customers have to reimburse loans and they can’t afford to leave on vacation anymore. According to ANAT, both leisure tourism as well as business tourism dropped, the occupancy rate of airlines being under 2007 level, while the international perspective for 2009 is reserved. For 2009, ANAT estimates EUR 15 mil sales., while the estimated number of tourists reaches 150,000 individuals. For winter holidays in 2008 travel agencies have registered a decrease compared to 2007, the main tour-operators registering drops between 5 and 10% during the period.
