Add comment

According to a study of the Center for Research in Tourism and Development from “Eftimie Murgu” University in Resita, carried out between August and November 2009, the tourism potential in Caras Severin is not exploited at its best.

The study shows that profit generated from tourism activities is three times lower than loss in the sector. Only 1,500 employees work in tourism industry in Caras Severin county.

The research and tourists answers pointed out that boarding houses in Caras-Severin have no particular features, village museums are not properly managed and local people lack hospitality, which leads to the main problem faced by tourism development, that of mentality and also poor organization in terms of tourism promotion.

According to the study, the main tourism flows are concentrated in the resort city Baile Herculane, even though recently there was a significant decrease of tourists, followed by Semenic Mountain and Poiana Marului – Muntele Mic resort.

The research was performed within the project titled “The development of themed tourism in Mountain Banat”, which is implemented by Caras Severin Council together with the authorities in Varset locality, Serbian Republic. The main objective is to promote all tourism types in the county and the growth of this industry.

The project is due in November 2009. The project is financed within the Cross-border cooperation between Romania and Serbia 2004-2006, worth over EUR 240,000, out of which EUR 220,000 are supported by the European Union, while Caras Severin County Council contributed with EUR 25,000.
