Amadeus Company, leader of technology in tourism industry worldwide asked the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) company to carry out a study, which concluded that the frequency of business trips will significantly decrease this year. EIU questioned 354 executives all over the world from November to December 2008.
Following the study named „The Austere traveler - the effect of corporate cutbacks on hotels”, carried out worldwide, 47% of the participants foresee less trips in the next year, while a quarter stated that they will choose accommodation at hotels under 4 or 5 stars.
63% of the respondents expect the executives will take advantage of the economic crisis, getting the best tariffs in hotels.
61% of the managers consider that a reliable brand providing uniform quality standards at international level will be a key factor in hotel choice in 2009.
76% of the respondents stated that Internet access is all-important. 56% stated that they rather have a good connection to the Internet than a quite room, while 54% prefer good transport connections and 52% choose a downtown location.
The interviewed managers stated that at least once every trimester they travel for business, 37% state that at least once a month are traveling for businesses, while 7% travel weekly.
Asian and Northern American managers foresee a significant fall of business trips in 2009, while Europeans consider that the number of business trips will not be affected.
