Kurt Strohmayer, General Manager of JW Marriott in Bucharest, considers that the hotel market, at present affected by the financial crisis by cutting companies’ budgets, will make a recovery in approximately 2 years.
Strohmayer also considers this is a good period to develop new hotels but not for opening new units. A favourable period for newcomers on the market is in 2 years, in 2011 when the boom from 2006-2007 will repeat.
JW Marriott projected for this year a slightly decrease or maintaining the level of business around EUR 40 mil., against the financial crisis which started to influence the hotels in Bucharest from the second half of the last year.
The manager estimates for 2009 that the first six months will generate revenues under the level of the similar period last year, but the second semester will exceed the last year revenues.
JW Marriott kept sales in 2008 at the level in 2007, although the initially estimates projected growth.
In Strohmayer’s opinion, the 5 star market will be less affected than the 3 or 4 star, because hotel owners will cut expenditures from middle management not from top management.

Cred ca se vor taia cheltuielile de la orice nivel si cred ca piata de 5 stele va fi totusi cea mai afectata
