On October 7, the Government approved the merge between Henri Coanda - Otopeni International Airport and Aurel Vlaicu - Baneasa Airport, by incorporating the Bucharest National Airports Company.
The operation has also been approved by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure by the end of September, within the General Meeting of Shareholders of Henri Coanda International Airport. Both airports are controlled by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, MTI, which owns 80%, while the Proprietatea Fund owns 20% of the shares. The structure of the shareholders will be maintained within the Bucharest Airports National Company too.
The project law sustains the merge through reduction of the global operating costs, a common management and operating of airports serving the same region, issuance of a unitary strategy for development and modernizing the airports’ infrastructure, as well as through the set up of a very attractive share package for privatization. The company will have an initial share capital of EUR 33.41 mil.
The company headquarters will be in Otopeni and the two airports will continue to operate as local units.
