The Western-European countries, the main suppliers of tourists for the local market, significantly reduced the number of visitors as a result of the international crisis. This year, the number of Spanish tourists decreased by approximately 30%, while the number of Italian tourists diminished by 70%, according to the travel agencies attending the business travel fair held in Barcelona.
The number of Austrian, German and Swiss tourists also registered a decreasing trend. The Israeli are among the few tourists whose number grew this year.
According to the estimates of the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT), the number of foreign tourists on the seaside was expected to drop 20%, the estimated level being of approximately 120,000 foreign tourists exclusively arrived through travel agencies.
