Tarom airline, Romatsa, as well as Otopeni and Baneasa airports posted losses of approximately EUR 5 mil. between April 15-19 due to the ash cloud, stated Marin Anton, the State Secretary within the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, MTI. Tarom airline posted EUR 3 mil. loss in the period, Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration, Romatsa posted EUR 1 mil. loss, while the two airports, Otopeni and Baneasa registered EUR 800,000 loss, stated Marin Anton.
The State Secretary within the MTI stated that on April 17, the flight restrictions due to the ash cloud generated loss for the Romanian public companies of EUR 2 mil. daily. The highest loss was registered by Tarom airline, of EUR 1.1 mil. per day.
According to the preliminary estimates made by the International Air Transport Association, IATA, on April 16, the airline companies registered loss of over EUR 200 mil. per day, due to the ash cloud. Also, Qantas Australian airline announced loss of USD 1.4 mil. per day, while Emirate company from Dubai posted USD 10 mil. loss per day.
ACI Europe, The Airports European Council, announced that on April 18, the European airports registered loss of EUR 136 mil.
TUI Travel British company registered GBP 6 mil. loss per day, plus other losses of GBP 14 mil.
