The General Manager of Tarom, Ruxandra Brutaru, stated that the airline operator registered loss for the first five months of the year due to dollar depreciation and higher price of oil by USD 211 per tone.
If forecasts for 2010 as regards higher price on fuel become true, the company will register loss for the whole year 2010, stated Ruxandra Butnaru.
In 2009, Tarom posted loss of approximately EUR 21.5 mil., while in 2008 the loss reached USD 28 mil.
From January to May, the number of passengers transported by Tarom increased by 26% compared to the similar period in 2009, while for 2010, the company estimates the number of transported passengers will increase by 21%, up to 2.14 mil. and an occupancy over 60%.
Brutaru specified Tarom registered in 2009 a market share of 20% and estimates to increase by 3% for the current year.
