Tarom airline will launch six new external and four new internal flights this summer, stated the General Manager of the company, Ruxandra Brutaru.
The external flights will be introduced in June from Bucharest to Amsterdam, Lyon, Venice, Dubrovnik, Zagreb and from Cluj towards Paris. The new domestic flights are Bucharest- Constanta, Cluj-Constanta, Iasi-Constanta and Timisoara-Iasi.
Ruxandra Brutaru also stated the company sold 45,000 tickets from January until now within the promotion with EUR 50 plus taxes for a ticket on external destinations. The promotion is valid until the end of the year. The representative of Tarom estimates 200,000 tickets to be sold until the end of 2009.
Brutaru stated this year the company’s priorities are reaching the break-even point, through cutting expenditures and maintaining the number of passengers at approximately 2 mil., the level registered last year.
Previously, the company forecasted for the current year an increasing number of passenger by 8% up to 2.1 mil. but sales dropped in the first quarter of 2009.
Moreover, Tarom implemented a cost-reducing program, consisting of disposal of the inefficient load on aircrafts, use of light and eco materials in catering service, a rigorous technical and washing program for the aircrafts but also re-organizing the operational processes for flight direction and for the entire organization in general. Total savings reach USD 8.6 mil. per year.
