Tarom airline will re-launch by the end of 2010 or in 2011 the latest, the transatlantic flights.
Marin Anton, State Secretary within the Ministry of Transport, stated that the decision to re-introduce the flights has been taken and, at present, several solutions are analyzed by the company’s management regarding the aircraft type.
The first alternative to operate the flight are the two aircrafts Airbus A310 type, currently operating on European flights. The second choice is renting aircrafts, while the third option is to buy new planes, not likely to happen.
Delta Airlines company operates direct on Bucharest - New York route only seasonally, after entering on the Romanian market, few years ago with the intention of permanent flights.
It is considered that, for a continental flight, 70% of aircraft occupancy is sufficient to be profitable, while for transatlantic flights the occupancy should reach at least 80%.
