For 2009, Tarom airline company foresees EUR 21.5 mil. loss. The main reason is the company failing to achieve its objectives, as a result of the crisis, which impacted the airline industry worldwide, especially in Romania.
According to the preliminary data provided by Tarom, the company reported revenues of EUR 260 mil. for the last year, EUR 97.5 mil. less than compared to the initial estimates for 2009 at the beginning of the year.
The company has tried to increase passengers’ traffic in 2009 through ticket promotions at prices competing with those of low-cost operators.
However, the number of transported passengers in 2009 reached 1.72 mil., decreasing by 13% compared to 2008.
According to the company’s representatives, the data reported for January to November period and estimates for December reveal an average occupancy of aircrafts of 55.56% on regular external flights and 58.88% on regular domestic flights.
