Tarom: 16.3% decreasing number of passengers in Q1

In the first quarter of 2009, Tarom airline transported 312,300 persons, dropping 16.3%, compared to the same period in 2008. The occupancy rate was 46.1%, the lowest out of the members of AEA, Association of European Airlines.

According to AEA data, the occupancy rate decreased by 13.2% compared to the similar period last year, under the circumstances of introducing three new aircrafts to perform flights but the number pf passengers decreased.

In March, Tarom transported 109,800 persons, decreasing by 24.1% compared to the same month in 2008. Meanwhile, the operator registered an average occupancy rate of 44.2%, dropping by 14.6%.

In Europe, airliners transported 48.4 mil. passengers in the first three months of the year, dropping 10.8%. The occupancy rate of aircrafts decreased by 3.2% down to 60.7%.
