Romanian currency depreciation, compared to the European currency, might encourage incoming tourism in Romania, which would become appealing to foreign tourists, states Mircea Draghici, project manager within Hotels Department of CB Richard Ellis Eurisko.
Gheorghe Fodoreanu, owner of Invitation Romania travel agency, appreciates that Romanian currency depreciation will lead to the use of euro payments for contracts on the incoming segment, as it generates higher benefits for tourism operators. Fodoreanu specified that this year contracts in Romanian currency would disadvantage the operators.
Tourism packages sales for winter holidays in 2008 were reduced compared to the same period in 2007, 30% lower on abroad segment and 10% less on the domestic one.
Tourism market is expected to register 5% growth at its best in 2009, in the context of the financial crisis leading to drop in travel, both on business and leisure segment.
