Five countries in South Eastern Europe are in the top of first 28 favorite destinations of the European Union tourists for this summer, according to the most recent Eurobarometer report. According to Southeast European Times, the beaches, amazing mountain landscapes and a great variety of historical places continue to attract tourists during summer in Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria. According to a survey of Gallup company, half of 27,000 respondents, residents in the EU, stated that they will spend their holiday in their country or another state, member of the EU. 20% have chosen destinations outside the EU for 2009, 19% were almost certain they will not travel this year, while approximately 11% stated that the financial problems have ruined their vacation plans. The same as last year, Spain, Italy, France and Greece are the most four popular destinations for European tourists, according to the study. In 2008, Bulgaria hosted 1% of the EU tourists and occupied the 17th position in the top of 35 favorite destinations of Europeans. This year, Romania went up to 26th position in the preferences of EU tourists from position 30, occupied last year. Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Romania improved their global scores within the past 12 months. Romania registered a score of 4.04 and Macedonia of 3.81, both going up three positions, ranking 66th and 80th, while Albania scored 3.68 placing it on the 90th position in the world.
