In the top of European Union states with highest increases regarding the number of passengers, Romania ranked first registering a 41% growth of passengers’ number. Latvia (27%), Poland (25%) and Lithuania (22%) occupied the next positions according Eurostat.
The lowest increase rates registered Luxemburg (2%), Great Britain (3%), Holland, Hungary and Cyprus, each with 4% traffic increase.
The passengers’ traffic increased by 7.3% in 2007 compared to 2006 in total, up to 793 mil. passengers, while in 2006 the increase rate was 4.7%.
According to Eurostat, Henri Coanda Airport registered a 41% increase of passengers’ number, up to 6.9 mil. passengers, of which 5.32 mil. passengers within EU, 544,000 passengers on internal routes and 1.04 mil. passengers on flights outside the European community.
The most crowded airport is Heathrow in London, with 68 mil. passengers, followed by Charles de Gaulle in Paris, with 60 mil. passengers and Frankfurt with 54 mil. passengers.
