On May 14, the auction to sell two hotels located in Baile Herculane resort took place. Hercule company owns the two hotels, namely Roman hotel, 2 star classified and Afrodita hotel, at present closed due to high overdue debts to the state.
Nicusor Vasilescu, Mayor of the town-resort, stated the debts of Hercules company towards the state budget reaches EUR 2.5 mil. for the past 5 years.
The decision to sell the two hotels was taken by the Finance Division of Caras-Severin county.
Starting price for Roman hotel was EUR2.65 mil., while for Afrodita the auction started from approximately EUR 1.98 mil.
The number of tourists visiting last year Baile Herculane resort was of approximately 278,000, decreasing by over 13% compared to 2008.
