12 natural parks in eight countries located on Danube river will benefit of biotope protection, with the support of the European Union, according to the cooperation agreement concluded on June 9 in Vienna, named Danubeparks. The longest river in Europe and major trade channel, Danube faces the negative effects of fluvial traffic and industrialization, according to Danubeparks. Each natural park will have a project manager, who will coordinate the cooperation with partner parks. The cooperation is mostly financed by European funds for participant countries – Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania. Ukraine and Moldova Republic do not take part to the program. Eco-tourism is another concern of the cooperation agreement Danube parks. EUR 2.8 mil. budget for 3 years has been allocated in this purpose.
