The Minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea, stated, at the opening of Romania Tourism Fair, that a pilot - project is to be launched this year for Baile Herculane resort, Caras-Severin county, aiming to rehabilitate the resort.
Udrea stated that she plans to attract private investors and estimated that investments required for the resort could reach millions of euro.
Nicusor Vasilescu, Mayor of Baile Herculane city-resort, stated in an interview in august 2009 that the number of tourists in Baile Herculane dropped in the last 3-4 years by at least 20%, as a result of the privatized hotels, which were out of operating and also due the lack of necessary investments.
At present, the resort has no hotels owned by state. All units, previously owned by the state, became the property of Hercules Argirom Group and SC Sind Romania SRL.
The resorts in Harghita and Covasna counties are also envisaged to be rehabilitated. In Valcea county, a new tourism resort will open in Voineasa, specified Elena Udrea minister.
