Overnight stays in accommodation facilities increased by 1.3% in May

In May the current year, arrivals and overnight stays in accommodation establishments registered 0.1% decrease, respectively 1.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

Arrivals in accommodation facilities in May reached 544,000 tourists, out of which arrivals of Romanian tourists accounted for 74.4%, while foreign tourists represented 25.6%.

In the mentioned period, arrivals in hotels account for 77.3% of the total arrivals in accommodation facilities, increasing by 0.8% compared to May 2009.

In the same period, overnight stays in accommodation facilities reached to 1,449,600, out of which overnight stays of Romanian tourists represented 80.5% and those of foreign tourists, 19.5%.

The net occupancy of bed places in May the current year was 26.9% in the total number of accommodation facilities, lower by 1.8% compared to May 2009. Higher occupancy of bed places was registered in accommodation facilities on ships – 84.5% and hotels – 32.3%.

Arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, registered at border crossing points were in May of 633,100, falling 4.1% compared to May 2009.

Most foreign visitors come from European countries, respectively 93.8%, while 63.4% of the total arrivals of foreign visitors came from European Union member states.

Air transport registered the highest decrease of 13.1% in the analyzed period compared to the same period last year.

Departures of Romanian tourists abroad, reported at border crossing points were of 885,500, lower by 12.2% compared to May 2009, while road transport was the favorite mean of transport of Romanian tourists, accounting for 73.9% of the total number of departures.

In the first five months of the current year, arrivals reported in accommodation facilities cumulated 1,949,400, dropping 2.6% compared to the first five months in 2009. Arrivals of Romanian tourists in accommodation facilities accounted for 76.6% of the total number of arrivals, while foreign tourists represented 23.4%.

Arrivals in hotels from January to May represent 76.6% of the total arrivals in accommodation facilities, declining 0.2%.

Overnight stays in accommodation facilities from January to May cumulated 4,457,300, decreasing by 3.4% compared to the same period in 2009. Romanian tourists represented 79.1% of the total, while 20.9% were foreign tourists.

The net occupancy of bed places for January – May was 20.2% on the total accommodation establishments, falling 0.7% compared to the same period in 2009. Higher occupancy was registered for the same period on ships – 79.3% and inns – 37.8%.

Arrivals of foreign tourist in Romania, reported at border crossing points were of 2,647,200 for January – May, lower by 3.5% compared to the same period in 2009. Most foreign tourists came from European countries – 95.3%, while 63.4% of the total number of foreign visitors in Romania came from the European Union member states.

Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at border were of 4,248,600, declining 8.1% compared to the same period in 2009.

Road transport was the favorite mean of transport of Romanian visitors leaving abroad, representing 76% of the total number of departures.
