Over 56% of Romanians spent their holidays in Romania

According to a study carried out by GfK Romania, over 56% of the Romanians spent their last vacation in the country, at the seaside or to the mountain and only 8% chose abroad destinations, mainly seaside resorts.

The tourists choosing to spend their holiday at the Romanian seaside, were mainly from Bucharest or inhabitants from Muntenia region, from the city, between 15-39 years old and personal net income over the average of EUR 232.

Young between 20 and 39 years old chose abroad holidays. They are full time employees, faculty graduates with average personal income over RON 410 per month.     

20% of the Romanians have never been on vacation or haven’t been in a long time. Those come from rural areas, from Oltenia, Dobrogea or Moldova and are 60 years old and up.

11% of the Romanians spent their last vacation single, 62% with their wife / partner, while 28% also took their children.

The main transport mean was the car. 50% of the Romanians chose to travel by car, while 27% travelled by train and 16% by bus.

70% of the Romanians spent their spare time at home watching TV, doing choirs, reading or working on computer, while 5% choose fishing as leisure activity.

GfK Romania carried out this research between the 1st and 22nd of August to identify people’s habits regarding how they spend holidays or their spare time. The sample included 2,195 respondents and was representative for Romania’s population with ages 15 years and up.
