In 2008, over 1 mil. tourists visited Sibiu compared to 2007, when Sibiu was the European Cultural Capital and was visited by 1 mil. tourists, stated Klaus Iohannis.
The City Hall started last year to develop a unitary tourism promoting strategy for Sibiu and surrounding areas. The municipality hopes to obtain approximately 235,000 EUR from European funds to promote the city.
Once the Office for Development and Promoting Tourism was set up on October 1st, 2008, the City Hall launched the first two instruments within the strategy, the DVD promoting Sibiu city and the tourism site of the city.
This year, Sibiu will attend the tourism international fairs in Stuttgart, Budapest, Berlin and Bucharest. More, the city hall considers opening a new market in Sweden, focusing on seniors tourism segment.
In order to face the tourism flows but also to adequately promote the potential of the city and Marginimea Sibiului area, the City Hall of Sibiu, collaborating with Alexandru Constantinescu professor, organizes an intensive course for tourist guides, for upgrading and consolidating the know-how.
