Otopeni Airport: the first drop in 10 years

In the first quarter of this year, Henri Coanda - Otopeni International Airport registered a decrease by 17% of the airline traffic, down to 882,000 passengers, the first drop in the past 10 years.

The main traffic on Henri Coanda airport, is generated by regular flights of traditional airlines companies, low-cost flights and charters having minor contributions.

Valentin Iordache, quality manager of the airport, stated that the number of aircrafts’ movements maintain at the last year level, of approximately 16,300.

Aurel Vlaicu - Baneasa airport, where low-cost companies operate, registered a passengers traffic increase by 20% in the first three months of this year, compared to the same period in 2008, up to 460,000.

In the first three months, the turnover of Baneasa Airport reached EUR 5 mil. For the current year, Stefan Mladin, general manager of the airport foresees 2 mil. passengers, 20% more than in 2008.

Moreover, the airport’s representatives estimate turnover increase by 25% this year. In 2008, Baneasa Airport registered EUR 18.5 mil.
