Add comment

In the first eight months of the current year, Henri Coanda Bucharest International Airport – Otopeni, AIHCB, reported a turnover of EUR 46.5 mil., 5% higher than the results registered the same period last year.

The representatives of the airport stated that the number of passengers decreased by 13%, down to 3 mil. in the first eight months of the year compared to the similar period last year.

In the same period the number of aircrafts’ movements was 48,466, by 3% higher than the same period in 2008.

This year, the main investments envisaged modernizing the airport. The works will continue in 2010 also, when investments will focus on expanding the International Departures terminal and developing the International Arrivals terminal.

The airport’s representatives specified that more and more companies are interested in operating on Otopeni Airport, as a result of the Worldwide Routes Forum, held in September which aims to develop new routes. Air Baltic, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Athens Airways are such companies.

According to the specialists, Romania is considered an attractive country for airline operators having a growing potential, especially because the market is not yet fully developed.

According to statistics provided by AIHCB, the first five companies generating the highest traffic are Tarom, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France and easyJet.
