This year, due to accesible tariffs as a result of recession, the number of Romanians choosing to leave on a cruise increased compared to previous years. Although this year’s value of the local market will double, the increase is not real, but it is the result of lower tariffs temporarily applied by international operators during recession.
Ioan Basea, Manager of travel agency croaziere.net located in Cluj-Napoca city, considers that tariffs for cruises will increase to the level before the crisis started, over the next years, cruises becoming somehow prohibitive for Romanian tourists with low to medium incomes compared to the present year, when persons of all social categories afforded cruises.
Cruise companies lowered tariffs by 10-15% compared to the previous years, stated Nicolae Demetriade, World Travel President, which distributes and promotes the products of Emirates Airlines, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, Cyprus Airways, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara to travel agencies in Romania.
Demetriade considers that the number of Romanians travelling on cruises this year reaches approximately 5,000, increasing by 20% compared to the last year.
