The representatives of ANAT, the National Association of Travel Agencies, consider that, due to the financial crisis, Romanian tourists will change their preferences for holiday destinations. Thus, the tourists will show interest in cheaper destinations, located nearby.
In order to reduce the crisis effect, the ANAT management elaborated a plan, especially that the hospitality industry in Romania registers drops on different segments.
The ANAT officials stated that introducing holiday tickets could be benefic for tourism, while the Ministry of Tourism is expected to ramp up promotion activity, focused only on certain markets looking more appealing. For the next two-three months, the necessary budget is estimated at EUR 5 mil. Also, travel agencies prepare discounts of 20-30% for those who purchase holiday packages until the beginning of spring 2009.
