Malev suspended flights from Timisoara and Iasi towards Budapest

Malev airline suspended flights departing from Timisoara and Iasi airports towards Budapest during winter schedule, reaching thus 45 flights during winter, from 65 flights during summer.

Karim Makhlouf, Commercial Manager of the company, stated that Malev tries to increase the passengers’ number and the occupancy of aircrafts and, therefore, flights with low occupancy were suspended.

The company’s representatives expect 7-8% increase of passengers number until the end of the year on routes operates in Romania, considering that tickets price decreased and new holiday packages are promoted through a partnership with hotels in Budapest.

The average occupancy of aircrafts on routes from Romania reached 70-75%.

In 2008, Malev transported approximately 280,000 passengers on flights from and towards Romania.

Karim Makhlouf stated that Malev airline faces a reorganization process, thus the number of employees having been reduced from 1,800 to 1,450 persons worldwide this year and the staff will reach 1,000 employees until 2010.
