In 2009, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines companies, integrated in the German group last year, transported 900,000 passengers on the local market and registered a quarter of the traditional airlines, according to the officials of the two airline companies.
Lufthansa transported from and towards Romania 600,000 passengers last year, increasing by 6% compared to 2008, while Austrian Airlines transported 300,000 passengers on the local market, by 7% more compared to the previous year. The two airline companies, operating 171 weekly flights towards Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf and Vienna, plan to consolidate their presence on the market this year, through increase in their capacity, flight frequency and market share. Starting summer schedule, Lufthansa will operate 103 weekly flights from Romania towards Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf and Milan.
Austrian Airlines will operate 68 weekly flights towards Vienna from Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi and Sibiu on the summer schedule.
On April 22, Lufthansa will enter the market of Chisinau, operating 7 flights per week towards Munich.
Lufthansa reported EUR 22.3 bn. turnover in 2009 worldwide, dropping 10% compared to 2008, as well as EUR 113 mil. loss.
