The development manager for Central and Eastern Europe of Lufthansa, Tamur Goudarzi-Pour, stated that Romania, Poland and Serbia are among the countries least affected by the crisis in the region, from airlines operators’ perspective. Hungary opposites, as sales dropped by 30-40% in the past months.
In 2008, the airline operator transported 550,000 passengers on flights from and towards Romania, 10% higher than compared to 2007, but 50,000 passengers under the initial estimates, as a consequence of the global financial crisis of the second half of 2008.
Stefan Versemann, Sales General Manager for Romania and Moldova Republic of Lufthansa stated that Bucharest is the most profitable destination for Lufthansa Italy after the first month of operating, out of eight flights launched this year, outbalancing cities such as Madrid, Budapest or Paris.
Lufthansa reported a global operational profit of EUR 1.35 bn., below the initial estimated which had forecasted reaching EUR 1.9 bn. The net profit was EUR 599 mil.
Regarding the company’s sales, 2008 was the best year in the Central and Eastern Europe.
