Between January and September, the sales of traditional airline companies on the local market, with the exception of low-cost operators, registered a 17% increase up to EUR 324 mil. The International Air Transport Association provided the data monitoring the tickets value sold through BSP system. Tarom, Carpatair, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines or Malev companies aggressively expanded in Romania in recent years. Hainan Airways, Adria, SAS, KD Avia, Royal Jordanian, Malaysian Airlines, IcelandAir, Fly Baboo, Moldavian Airlines or Etihad are several airlines recently entered on the Romanian market. At international level, as a result of the international crisis, the traffic dropped 2.9% in September, the most significant decrease registered since 2003, according to the IATA’s representatives. For 2009, IATA foresees a traffic increase from and towards Romania of 8.5%, a lower rate compared to this year but among the highest in the world.
