Igael Porecki Israeli, appointed as General Manager of JW Marriott Bucharest in August, has two medium term objectives, precisely upgrading the hotel and opening the second hotel of Marriott International on the local market until 2012, under the Courtyard brand, 4 star classified.

EUR 1.4 mil. will be invested in 2010 to rehabilitate the public areas of the hotel, stated Igael Porecki. Between February and March, the ballroom and Vienna Cafe will be modernized, while between June and July Cupola restaurant will be upgraded, which will have a steak house concept, stated Porecki.

Rehabilitating works will continue in 2011, as well. Up-grading rooms and modernizing Champions restaurant are mainly envisaged. The restaurant will have a new, larger, concept, added Porecki.

At the same time, Igael Porecki together with the unit’s management, will handle the opening of a new Marriott hotel until 2012, under the Courtyard brand. The new unit will be located in Unirii area, close to JW Marriott and will have 198 rooms.

The developer of this project is an Israeli company, Marriott being in charge only of the management part. The total investment is not yet known, specified Porecki, who added that it is likely to open another Renaissance hotel on the capital market.

Renaissance is Marriott International 5 star brand, providing all inclusive services, from library to business center, pool, fitness center, conference and banquetting facilities.

In the first nine months of this year, the occupancy of JW Marriott in Bucharest was of 60%. The main target for 2010 is reaching 65% occupancy, stated the General Manger of the hotel in Bucharest.

Porecki specified that the rates will maintain at the current level  in 2010, in order to reach the occupancy target. The demand dropped from the beginning of the year until now, following the market’s trend, down to 25%. But rates are expected to go up to the value of 2007-2008, once the demand grows.
