The number of international arrivals in Romania to increase by 18% within 2014, up to 9.6 mil. visitors, estimates Euromonitor International, market research company, Romania maintaining its fifth position among Eastern Europe countries, following Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Croatia.
In 2009, the average amount spent by foreign tourists in Eastern Europe was EUR 334/ person, declining 5% compared to the previous year. By this indicator, Romania occupied the penult position, before Lithuania which reported an average expenditure per person of EUR 125.
Last year, out of the total number of foreign tourists visiting Romania, most came from Hungary – 25%, Moldova – 15% and Bulgaria – 14%.
Euromonitor estimates an increase of business tourists in Romania up to 3.6 mil. persons. Regarding airline traffic, the decrease was not dramatic, especially due to the low-cost segment, which doubled in the past 5 years, reaching a 30% market share.
