Howard Johnson Grand Plaza Bucharest: 40% turnover decrease in 2009

Add comment

In 2009, Howard Johnson Grand Plaza hotel in Bucharest, 5 star classified, reported 40% decline of turnover down to EUR 8 mil., stated Sonia Nastase, the hotel’s Manager.

Nastase specified that the decrease in demand for tourist services is normal in this period, as the hotel follows the market trend. In January this year, the unit reported 40% occupancy, similar to January 2009, but this is not a representative month, considering that the lowest indicators are registered during the first quarter of the year, stated Sonia Nastase.

For the current year, Howard Johnson Grand Plaza envisages to increase market share, trying to attract both business clients, as well as leisure guests.

Sonia Nastase added that the hotel cooperates with travel agencies on the local market, in order to attract foreign tourists visiting the capital. Approximately 15% of the total number of guests are foreigners visiting Romania for tourism purposes through travel agencies and choosing to spend one or two nights in a hotel.

Last year, the hotel cut rates by 30% compared to the previous year, but this year the tariffs will be similar to those applied in 2009.
