In the first six months of the year, due to the financial crisis, the occupancy of hotels in mountain resorts dropped 50% compared to the similar period in 2008. Under these circumstances, hotel owners cannot cover the expenditures. Romeo Almasan, manager of Belvedere hotel in Predeal stated that this year the occupancy dropped approximately 40% and the company’s objective for this year is to maintain the hotel on the market. Moreover, Almasan stressed tha,t, as a result of the economic crisis, the highest drop is not registered by tourists’ number but conferences and team buildings held by hotels. Therefore, several boarding houses had to close their activity. The owner of Paraul Rece complex in Predeal, Liviu Cocos stated that the hotel has an occupancy of 25-30% and barely covers its expenditures, considering that the highest decrease is on event segment held by companies. Also, Sinaia Hotel located in the resort with the same name, registers fall of occupancy, of approximately 25% this month. Although tariffs dropped 40% compared to the same period last year, the activity of Silva hotel in Busteni reduced this year, the average occupancy halved from 60% last year down to 30% this year.
