Consultants of the hotel market stated that hotel owners in Bucharest have to value the quality of services, in order to increase the number of tourists in 2010, not only to apply low tariffs.
Another weakness of the capital might be the insufficient spaces to host international events, which generate traffic, including for tourism.
According to the reports carried out on the local market by CBRE, real estate company, the average accommodation rate reaches EUR 78-80 in Bucharest, comparable to rates applied in capitals such as Sofia, Warsaw, Prague or Budapest.
The decrease is the result of the crisis, as the average occupancy went down by a third.
This year, Bucharest will reach an average occupancy of 48-52%, declining by approximately 25-27% compared to 2008, according to Mircea Draghici estimates, project manager within Hotels department of CBRE Eurisko.
The hotel market in Prague will also register lower occupancy, as tariff per night reached EUR 77 maximum and also in Budapest, where the accommodation tariff reaches EUR 70-73 on average, or Bratislava with tariffs per night of EUR 80-82. However, the occupancy rate in European capitals declined less than in Bucharest.
