In January 2010, the arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, reported at border crossing points, registered 470,000, decreasing by 5% compared to the same period of the previous year. Most tourists came from European countries, respectively 96.3%, according to the data of the National Institute of Statistics, INS.
63.3% of the total number of foreign tourists arrivals in Romania came form European Union countries, 44.8% from Hungary, 16.9% from Bulgaria, 7.7% from Italy, 7.2% from Germany and 4% from Austria.
The water transport reported the lowest decrease in January 2010, respectively 83.4% compared to January 2009. The departures of Romanian visitors abroad, reported at border crossing points in January, were of 938,100, decreasing by 5.3% compared to January 2009.
Road transport was mostly used by the Romanian visitors departing abroad, accounting for 77.1% of the total number of departures.
According to INS, the arrivals reported in the accommodation facilities in January 2010 comprised 308,500, decreasing 8.3% compared to January 2009.
The Romanian tourists represented 78.5% out of the total number of arrivals, while the foreign tourists accounted for 21.5% in the total.
Arrivals in hotels accounted for 75.4% in January 2010 of the total arrivals in the accommodation facilities, decreasing by 2.8% compared to the same months of the last year.
Overnight stays in the accommodation establishments in Janaury 2010 comprised 629,100, decreasing by 10.6% compared to January 2009.
Overnight stays of Romanian tourists accounted for 77.6% of the total number, while the overnight stays of foreign tourists were of 22.4%.
The net occupancy of bed places in January 2010 was 15.4% for the total number of accommodation facilities, dropping 2.4%.
Higher occupancy rates have been registered by inns with 29.5% and hotels with 17.4%.
