In the first quarter of the year, foreign tourist arrivals in Romania registered at border crossing points were of 1,427,400, declining 3.9% compared to the same period in 2009. 96% of the tourists came from European countries, according to the data provided by National Institute of Statistics, INS.
64.2% of the number of foreign tourist arrivals came from European Union member states, Hungary ranking first – 43%, followed by Bulgaria – 17.3%, Italy – 7.7%, Germany – 7.9% and Austria – 4.1%.
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, reported at border crossing points dropped 6.4% in the first three months, down to 2,439,600. The most used mean of transport of Romanians leaving abroad was road transport, representing 76.2% from total departures.
The arrivals in the accommodation establishments cumulated 993,100 in that period, decreasing by 6.7% compared to the same period in 2009. 77.5% of the total number of arrivals represented Romanian tourists, while foreign tourists accounted for 22.5%.
Arrivals in hotels account for 76.3% of the total arrivals in accommodation establishments.
In the first quarter, the net occupancy of bed places was 17% on the total of accommodation facilities, decreasing by 0.2% compared to the first quarter in 2009. Inns and hotels registered higher occupancy, 39.3% for inns and 19.7% for hotels.
In March this current year, foreign tourists arrivals in Romania, registered at border crossing points were of 530,100, decreasing by 0.2% compared to March 2009.
Most foreign visitors come from European countries, respectively 95.4%. 63.5% of the total number of foreign tourist arrivals is generated by EU member states, Hungary with 41.1%, Bulgaria with 17.7%, Italy with 8%, Germany with 9% and Austria with 4.5%.
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad, reported at border crossing points in March were of 797,400, decreasing by 8.2% compared to March 2009. Road transport is the mean of transport mostly used by Romanian visitors for abroad departures, accounting for 75.4% of the total number of departures.
Arrivals in accommodation facilities in March 2010 cumulated 363,100, lower by 3.6% compared to the same period last year. The arrivals of Romanian tourists represented 75.8%, while foreign tourist arrivals represented 24.2%.
Arrivals in hotels account for 76.7% in the total number of arrivals in accommodation establishments in March 2010.
Overnight stays in accommodation facilities cumulated 775,100, decreasing by 5.2% compared to March 2009. Out of the total, overnight stays of Romanian tourists in accommodation facilities represented 77.1% and foreign tourists represented 22.9%.
The net occupancy of bed places in March 2010 was 18.2% on the total accommodation facilities, declining 1.9% compared to March 2009. Higher occupancy of bed places in March 2010 was registered by inns with 46.5% and hotels with 21.7%.
