On March 16, the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea, met the Austrian businessman Niki Lauda, who came to Romania by the occasion of officially launching Fly Niki airlines.
Fly Niki airlines started to operate in February six low-cost flights on Bucharest - Vienna route.
Udrea stated that the entrance on the market of Niki Lauda and his airline company will attract the Austrian tourists, not only to Bucharest, but also at the seaside, or other places in Romania. The Minister made a proposal to the businessman to operate on Vienna - Constanta route also.
For the first year of operating on the Romanian market, Lauda estimates 75% occupancy. The investment in this route reaches EUR 1.5 mil. and the investment will be returned in one year.
The businessman stated that his company will introduce other routes with departure from Romania in the summer of 2011.
Fly Niki is 50,1% owned by Niki Lauda and 49,9% by the German airlines, Air Berlin.
