Henri Coanda – Otopeni International Airport will open a new passengers’ terminal at the end of next year, following EUR 70 mil. investment, stated Tudor Jidav, General Manager of the airport. The terminal’s construction will be supported by airport’s own funds.

The new terminal, which will have 15 boarding gates, will increase the annual capacity at 6 mil. passengers, compared to 4.5 mil. at present, while the capacity per hour will increase from 1,100 to 2,150 passengers, stated Jidav.

The investment is part of the third phase of development and modernizing the airport, worth EUR 150 mil., VAT not included. This phase also includes setting up a terminal for international arrivals until December 2011 and expanding the international departures terminal which will be completed in June 2012.

Radu Berceanu, interim Minister of Transport and infrastructure, stated that the new segment of Bucharest – Ploiesti highway will be connected to the airport through a new access road.
