The Consistory of Evangelic Church accessed Phare funds of EUR 5 mil. in order to rehabilitate 18 fortified Transylvanian Saxon churches located in Alba – Sibiu – Brasov – Mures regions. If the project is approved, rural tourism could boost.
The project benefited of consultancy from “Mihai Eminescu” Fundation, owned by prince Charles of Great Britain.
The project will mainly contribute to developing rural areas, stated Philipp Hafmann, the German expert who drew up the marketing plan of the project.
The rehabilitating works of the churches would be developed between 2010 and 2013, generating 300 jobs.
The 18 churches included in the project are Garbova and Sebes (Alba county), Archita, Apold and Cloasterf (Mures county), Bunesti, Crit, Cincsor and Mesendorf (Brasov county) and Atel, Carta, Curciu, Dealu Frumos, Ighisu Nou, Malancrav, Netus, Stejarisu and Valchid (Sibiu county).
