The European Commission announced the Department for Tourism within the Ministry for SMES, Commerce, Tourism and Liberal Professions (MIMMCTPL) that Romania’s candidature was accepted for the project entitled European Destinations of Excellence, the 2008-2009 edition.
Lucia Morariu, state secretary for Tourism within the Ministry, stated that this year theme of projects competition is “Tourism and protected areas”.
The ministry will propose the evaluation criteria of candidate destinations, which will follow the quality in the untraditional tourist area.
The selection procedure has to end until May 2009 and the winner will be announced in June 2009.
At present there are three main categories of protected areas in Romania: Delta Danube Biosphere Reservation, 13 National Parks and 13 natural Reservations.
