British architecture company, Zaha Hadid Architects, has designed a 200 m height skyscraper to be built in downtown Bucharest, at Mihai Eminescu street and Calea Dorobantilor crossroads, which will be named Dorobanti Tower, according to the English media. The building is designed in the shape of a polished diamond. The company announced that the building will include a 5 star hotel, a casino, luxurious apartments, commercial area and meeting rooms for customers, located at inferior floors. Total built area will be of 100,000 sq m.
According to Zaha Hadid, this project's beneficiary is Romanian company Smartown Investments, a private investor planning to start the project in 2009 and finalize it in 2013. The City Hall of Sector 1, the administrative authority of the area where the project is located, hasn’t yet issued the building permit and no documentation has been submitted to Bucharest General City Hall in order to develop the Regional Urban Plan (PUZ).
Zaha Hadid was born in Irak, currently lives in London and she is the only woman who has ever won the prestigious design award Pritzker Prize. Zaha Hadid created some of the most spectacular buildings worldwide, among which BMW headquarters in Germany and Rosenthal Centre for Contemporary Art in Ohio. She worked at interior decoration of Millenium Dome in London and the Aquatic Center in the British capital, prepared for the 2012 Olympic Games.
