Fahti Taher, businessman, owning indirectly shares of JW Marriott hotel in Bucharest, 5 star classified, might bring the 4 star brand Courtyard in the capital.
In June this year, the former General Manager of JW Marriott Grand Hotel Bucharest, Kurt Strohmayer, stated that a contract has already been signed with a developer to start the construction works for a Courtyard hotel of 187 rooms, to be completed within 2 years.
The hotel investment is estimated between EUR 14 and 18 mil., considering a cost per room ranging from EUR 74,000 to 100,000 according to the previous statements of Marriott’s representatives.
Fathi Taher is one of the investors who asked for consulting services to develop a hotel in Bucharest, stated Strohmayer, but he did not provide any information regarding the hotel brand to be brought by Taher. According to the latest available data, Fahti Taher owns 19% of the shares of Societatea Companiilor Hoteliere Grand, managing JW Marriott hotel in Bucharest, while Bau Holding Strabag owns 55%.
At the same time, Gica Popescu, former football player, is currently negotiating to affiliate a 4 star hotel with 144 rooms to Courtyard brand. The hotel is to be developed on a plot of 5,000 sq m of land in the capital, following a EUR 25 mil. investment.
