Passengers traffic on Cluj-Napoca International Airport increased by 11% last year, compared to 2008, up to 834,400 passengers, while airport’s management team estimated a 7-8% increase in 2009. For the current year, an increase by 10% is expected, compared to 2009, by launching new destinations and increasing flight frequency, according to David Ciceo, the airport’s Manager. Radu Bica, Vice-President of Cluj County Council, specified that Cluj authorities will continue to invest in upgrading the airport, expanding the runway and developing a cargo terminal.
Bica stated that the highest monthly increase, of 40%, was reported in December 2009, when 72,218 passengers were registered on the airport, compared to 51,486 in December 2008.
