Carpatair: 12% traffic decline in the first 8 months

Carpatair airline company, owned by Nicolae Petrov business man, registered 12% traffic decrease in the first 8 months of this year down to 337,000 passengers, compared to the same period in 2008.

Also, the company reported EUR 45 mil. turnover, 20% lower compared to the same period in 2008.

Paula Ardelean, Sales Vice-President at Carpatair, stated that the company doesn’t plan to register profit in 2009, but to preserve its presence on the market, with minimum negative effects on the financial liquidity.

Carpatair is the main competitor of Tarom airline on the regular airline market, estimated at EUR 400 mil., low-cost companies not included.

In 2008, Carpatair registered EUR 90.5 mil. turnover and net loss of EUR 1.7 mil., the first loss in six consecutive years of profit, according to the data on the website of the Ministry of Finances.  

The companies’ representatives stated that the company did not plan major investments for this year, due to the economic crisis, but they focuse on optimizing the activities. The company planed only investments related to fleet technical maintenance of EUR 3 mil., higher than in 2008.

Carpatair operates over 250 weekly flights from 10 cities in Romania towards 10 destinations in Italy, 3 in Germany, 1 in Greece, as well as towards 2 cities in Ukraine and Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.

Moreover, Carpatair will introduce direct flights towards Ancona from Bucharest starting October 2 and towards Bari starting October 27, announced the companies’ representatives.
