A workshop titled “Mountain tourism between emergencies and sustainable development” was held between February 8 to 10 in Busteni, Romanian mountain resort.
The workshop submitted for debate assessing the mountain tourism current condition, establishing the main constraints and development directions.
Emanoil Savin, mayor of Busteni city, stated that the development strategy of Busteni resort on medium term relies on modernizing tourism infrastructure and improving the quality of tourism services. The highest priority is developing recreational services for winter and summer sports.
Therefore, the project of access Infrastructure Busteni –Valea Alba – Kalinderu is undergoing. Kalinderu ski slope, the ski lift and artificial snow-making machine have been completed within the project.
Busteni project – a re-born resort is one of the projects to be submitted for obtaining European financing through structural funds. Due to the project, the center of the resort will benefit of developing 13 new tourism attractions. The ski area will continue to be modernized by developing Kalinderu 2 ski slope, an Olympic slope for ski fond and a Fun Park for kids.
Busteni is one of the resorts on Prahova Valley which will host in 2013 the European Youth Olympic Festival.
Participants to the seminar presented also Prahova Valley also as rural tourism destination for diversifying tourism supply.
Elena Udrea, Minister for Tourism, stated this year budget would support the project Ski in the Carpathians. The project was initiated in 2006 but wasn’t developed because of lack of financing. The specialists developing tourism projects, including feasibility and technical studies, are invited to send their work to the Ministry, as there are available funds for the projects to be developed this year.
