Bucharest: second place in Europe in the occupancy decrease ranking

Add comment
The additional rooms supply in a year affected by the financial crisis led to the decrease of occupancy rate in Bucharest hotels with 14.2% up to 61.2%, placing the capital of our country on the second position in the top, following Reykjavik (-24.9%), according to the study of Hospitality Vision carried out by Deloitte for the year closed in September 2008.

According to the study, the average tariff of hotels in Bucharest reaches EUR 120, while revenues per room (revPAR) reach EUR 73. This indicator dropped 8.2% in the reference period.

For the local authorities and hotel operators, the long-term challenge is turning the capital in a cultural and leisure destination for foreign and Romanian tourists.

Investments in hotel operations dropped approximately with EUR 5 bn. in Europe, from approximately EUR 21 bn. last year.

At European level, according to the Deloitte study, the hotel performance slightly diminished during the reference year. Thus, revenues per room decreased by 1.5%, up to EUR 76, against 1.9% dropping of occupancy rate.
