The first two companies on the low-cost local market, Wizz Air and Blue Air, forecast that low-cost airline transport will maintain its growing trend also in 2010, but at a lower rate than this year.
Each market player aims to be the market’s leader, but the strategies continue to be different. Therefore, Blue Air considers investments, postponing the unimportant ones, while Wizz Air chose to continue its cost efficiency policy.
This year, the Romanian company was outrun by the operator from Hungary regarding passengers’ traffic.
Natasa Kazmer, Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Manager of Wizz Air, estimates that the number of passengers will reach approximately 1.7 mil. this year, similar to the estimates of Blue Air representatives.
Blue Air expects 2010 will be a as tough as 2009.
This summer, in order to occupy the leading position on the low-cost market in Romania, both Blue Air and Wizz Air tried to attract more customers of MyAir company, which faced bankruptcy. MyAir transported on average 3,500 passengers per week, from and towards Romania.
In the first six months of the year, Wizz Air outrun Blue Air company considering traffic, reporting 86% increase compared to the first semester of the last year and reached 700,000 passengers.
The Hungarian company plans to launch new routes and expand its network, estimating 2 mil. transported passengers from and towards Romania in 2010.
